In the following performance, I install my body in Site I along with the other sculptures in their respective Sites. My inert body remains in position to be examined by the audience. My body activates in search of liberation from restraint. In this piece, I explore what are the effects of censorship on a body and the psyche of an individual, how a body is domesticated through patterns of recognition, and how structures of oppression restrict how a body operates.

In the 2000s, my jamming Cherotic ALL STAR BAND was the official holiday band at the San Francisco punk club KIMO'S. So each holiday I had to come up with a fitting title! During this period, we turned up the erotic explicit direct possibilities of what we did in performance!

Luna Cenere - Kokoro - rehersals

'Kokoro' is a single Japanese word translated as our 'inner being' that literally embraces two concepts, 'mind' and 'heart'. In this solo the writing of the movement is a result of the research of a specific body vocabulary where the action is able to project an inner state. The body exposed in its nudity becomes a poetic vehicle bringing out images not belonging to the real world. Important is the dialogue between the body, the surrounding environment and the audience perception. After the first period of residency the work is now supported and co - produced by CANGO, in Italy.

The Fancy Ladies by Deborah Edmeades
November 1, 1999

Deborah Edmeades plays 'Slopper', who in turn plays the fancy lady. [According to other Edmeades project descriptions, Slopper is the name of the ape whom Lucy -- Edmeades' 10-year-old alter ego -- sometimes pretends to be.] The fancy lady's extreme wealth, obsession about cleaning, and rudeness toward her servants are displayed. When the fancy lady accepts an invitation to a ball, she does not realize that her dress has fallen off part-way through the proceedings. She does not understand why all the women at the ball recoil from her, yet does not mind that they do so, as man after man asks her to dance. At the end, when she does realize she is naked, she leaves the ball in a huff.

On stage in theatres and in art galleries of today the Naked Body as an instrument or medium of artistic expression has become commonplace. Not so in public city environments where encounters remain seldom or rare. Regarding "in public" acceptance, the naked body in urban space, now as before, is subject to being either fined or banned as experiences in Biel, Zagreb, San Francisco, Barcelona and England have recently shown.

The Naked Performance Festival determines to initiate a change. It aims to explore the possibilities of the naked body in urban space and everyday situational life thereby contributing to its establishment in this context as an instrument of art expression. It will take place in the centre of Biel Switzerland. The naked performances will be localized within the pedestrian zone of the inner city, with police authorization.

We are looking for projects working with naked bodies in a comprehensive way whereby pedestrian circulation, the architectural environment and ground- area surface features are also an integral part. Effects on public, media and society should likewise be reflected upon, in this way enabling conceptual projects to be brought into focus for artists wishing to exhibit works involving the immediate presence of the naked body and thereby utilizing public space as a platform for interaction and statement. The exposure and the vulnerability of the naked body and also its strength and charisma should be visualized within the tensional interplay of civilized urbanity and raw nature. After 6 p.m. indoor performances.

The performance depicts the rite of marriage according to a surreal dramaturgy, with references to the feminine world. The figure of the woman is the central and multifaceted, played by Claudia Di Gangi, who brings to the stage the mother, Giusi Scalici. The participation of the latter marks the transition from mother to daughter, from girl to woman, through the emotional and formal stages. In this delicate and intimate female processuality, she could not miss the male; the man (a person chosen at random from the audience) embodies his role as companion required for playback and completion, but in a writing scene that sees him marginal. Degrowth ceremony is first of all a work on the woman as a human being, daughter, mother, each element in the scene (the red wire, the offered fruit juice) is activated during the performance as extensive device. Extensive is in fact the relationship that the performer has with the public, and extensive is the one with her mother, to whom will be entrusted the cathartic action to sever a relationship of dependency (the one that starts with motherhood and the umbilical cord), creating the presuppositions of a happy and a settled existence.

La performance mette in scena il rito del matrimonio secondo una drammaturgia surreale, con dei rimandi all’evoluzione del femminile. La figura della donna è centrale e sfaccettata, interpretata da Claudia Di Gangi che porta in scena la madre, Giusi Scalici. La partecipazione di quest'ultima marca il passaggio da figlia a madre, da ragazza a donna, attraverso delle tappe emotive e formali. In questa delicata e intima processualità al femminile, non poteva mancare il maschile; l'uomo (una persona scelta dal pubblico) incarna il suo ruolo di compagno necessario per la riproduzione e completamento, ma in una scena che lo vede marginale. Cerimonia Decrescente è prima di tutto un lavoro sulla donna come essere umano, figlia, madre, ogni elemento presente in scena viene attivato durante la performance come un congegno estensivo. Estensivo infatti è il rapporto che la performer ha col pubblico, ed estensivo quello che ha con la madre, alla quale verrà affidata l'azione catartica di recidere un rapporto di dipendenza (quello che inizia con la maternità e il cordone ombelicale), creando i presupposti di un'esistenza felice e risolta.

Two myths collide in one epic explosion of poetry and heroics crafted by audacious director Carlos Díaz and inventive young playwright Rogelio Orizondo. Old and new figures from Cuba’s tumultuous history populate this brave work in which icons are reborn and others are abandoned — in particular, the myth of renowned poet José Martí, considered the founder of Cuban revolutionary thought. Five highly physical performers don exotically absurd costumes at a rapid-fire pace as they guide us poetically and fitfully through a series of flashbacks, all set against a backdrop of archival news footage that connects the past with the present in unnerving and profound ways.
