_In the Absence of Miracles
Surrealist, absurdist road-movie about a family in a car who get lost and meet first an apocalyptic Fishman, then some old people with movie-star masks and potted plants in a park, after which their car gets hijacked by naked people who are begging for water. Fiction debut of visual artists Bart Groenendaal and Egle Budvytyte.
"The project is a playful rendering into cinematic fiction of some of our concerns, notably with the contemporary urban environment, as a condition for the derangement of social protocol; it’s reality as a potential trigger for the projection of (Freudian) fantasies onto the Other and family values being tested under the strain of consumerist attitudes of simultaneous excitement and boredom towards the spectacle."

One’s subjective line of thought lingers in different points. Ab is also a prefix for away, abominated. It is simple, not quite as complex as the prefix Ob, which refers to openness, exposure, opposition, resistance, blocking, finality, completeness and the inverse. I choose Ab particularly because it is not Ob. However, Ab is moments from being all Ob is. I do not want it to disappear, today.”

Largometraje Chileno. Una película de SURE (MERCED).
Bubble Wand ahonda temas que no son comunes en el cine chileno: el pudor, el cuerpo, lo femenino, el miedo. Técnicamente hablando la cinta son nueve cortos (remixes) que se fueron re-mezclando de la historia verídica de un grupo de estudiantes de cine que intenta hacer su primer trabajo: un corto-documental-musical-porno-stop motion. Los chicos de SURE, ahora MERCED, junto a Gepe y los cineastas Óscar Cárdenas y Hyuk Bai Kwon realizan The Bubble Wand Remixes.

Sometimes it's very difficult to distinguish dreams from reality. What is a dream? Oblivion or flight? The dream is friendly with love, which without a choice can suddenly take possession of everyone. Love is invisibly present in everything: in the burning of a candle, the trembling of the petal, the whisper of the wind or the trembling of the wings of a butterfly ... Failure to nowhere, the fall into eternity, the infinity of soaring ... Plast of problems and everyday accumulation of cares, sufferings, expectations. But suddenly: immersion in yourself, in your essence, in your original. And separation: dizziness, falling, hovering, immersion in the freshness of dew, moisture, spring ... Finally: enlightenment, purification, clarity of thought, joy of existence. And then: again, flight, merging and dissolution in eternity!

Note: This was a very darkly lit piece and what the viewer’s eye saw differs from what the camera was able to capture. In the darkness there were smells floating around the audience at intervals. These were – honeysuckle, oranges, menthol, and moth balls.

If you ask me, I do hope the world of neutrinos and quarks is as amusing as portrayed in this humorous, hectic and surprising choreography. I also hope the nano-world is as stylish as Jeremy Lydic costumes, reminiscent of a 1970’s space movie as dreamed out by Salvador Dali. And that is as ingenious as the movable set, and it is as exquisitely lit as JACK was last night, flooded in Joe Levasseur’s mysterious chiaroscuro. The Guðmundsdóttir Summoning: summoning spell 2
The first meeting of The Guðmundsdóttir Coven, 10am, December 11 2015, Plimsoll Gallery, Hobart, Tasmania.
The karaoke rituals are an exercise in chaos magick. Each member of the coven bears a sigil on their palm, a magick symbol designed purely for the purpose of drawing Björk to Tasmania.
We concentrate on the sigil and charge it with the transcendent and transformative power of group song.
A second (clothed) karaoke ritual was held on the same day at 6:00pm during the opening of the exhibition, Gratis (curated by Sam Johnstone). These rituals are part of a larger project, The Guðmundsdóttir Summoning, an in-gallery magick workshop where a series of magick experiments were conducted, all with the same aim.
