NAKED BODIES IN VIRTUAL SPACES OF EXCEPTION
THE CHOREOGRAPHIC AND PERFORMANCE WORK OF URSINA TOSSI IS CONCERNED WITH THE BODY AND ITS POTENTIAL FOR RESISTANCE. FOR HER WORK BARE BODIES TOSSI REFLECTS ON AGAMBEN’S CONCEPT OF “BARE LIFE". SHE PLACES THE NAKED BODY INTO A VIRTUAL SPACE OF EXCEPTION AND CONTEMPLATES IT AS AN OBJECT OF POLITICAL INQUIRY AND STRATEGIC AFFECT. REFERENCING SCIENCE FICTION AND POLITICAL PROTEST SHE CONSIDERS THE NAKED BODY’S PRECARITY AND ITS RESISTANT POTENTIAL. IN THIS WORK TOSSI BRINGS CHOREOGRAPHIC AND PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUES INTO PROXIMITY AND SEARCHES FOR A SPACE OF POLITICAL ACTION. BARE BODIES IS PART OF URSINA TOSSI’S ON-GOING RESEARCH RELATING TO BODIES AND RESISTANCE.

A 2018 Housemate artist-in-residence production by Sydney-based dancer and choreographer, Rhiannon Newton. Stemming from a desire to be a little more plant-like in life and work, Newton asked 'could a dance grow like a plant does'?

Twenty to 30 million people in the world are slaves, of which 80% are forced into sexual servitude. The majority of victims are women and children. The top countries involved are not necessarily who you would expect - Uzbekistan, Russia, while others are places from which people might be desperate to escape, and hence vulnerable - Somalia, Syria, North Korea. Within the United States, I discovered that Fairfax County, Virginia, a comfortable suburb where I grew up, has a big trafficking problem. So does Nebraska. In order to experience the suffocating, disorienting, trapped sensation of trafficking victims I made a very long strip of the flags of the top countries, interspersed with fabric with traditional designs from those places. I appear with it wrapped tightly around me, with a hood over my head. As someone pulls the end of the scroll, I start to spin, and quickly fall down. My distress is obvious. Once I am left naked members of the public tie me up, and someone pulls a length of currency from different countries out of my vagina.

‘The Dry Womb’ is an installation and durational performance by artist Hannah Mary, looking at the addictive nature of neurotic behavior that has developed into alcoholism and presents different perspectives for the viewer to experience the secrecy and the safety of repetition through explorations into the womb and how the emotionally absent mother distorts the child’s innate understanding of its place through the image of the disintegrating mother. It presents a narrative of a relationship through the severity of the repetition and the absence that appears within its presence.

Informed by " T e s t o J u n k i e " b y P a u l B . P r e c i a d o , the performance Pornopoetica creeps through the cracks of the pornographic imagery, offering an aesthetic rewriting.
Pornopoetica investigates the border of the performativity of gender and its representation: it plays with the bodies on stage, it re-stages the obscene, triggering a short circuit in the use of pornography.
Pornopoetica explores the oscillation of desire. The political force of desire breaks all pretense of normality.
Mobile, unstable, metamorphic and nomadic; undetermined, undefined, not categorized.

Good Girls Reveal All was a collaboration between Spirited Bodies - my project empower people through art and life modelling - and Good Girls Eat Dinner, creators of exclusive events for people from creative industries. For this 2-hour life drawing event, my dear colleague Valentina Rock and I held poses whilst speaking about ourselves and our work as models. This video captures our opening monologues of 5-minutes each, after which answered questions put to us by Jo Wallace, founder of Good Girls Eat Dinner.
